as it is in GT4. It's no surprise, but the question had come up on the TT
board. PD preserved the Nordschliefe quite nicely. For my first lap in a
motorcycle I took a little 28hp Honda around in 10 minutes.
For my next trick I tried a racing modified Buell and didn't survive
Flugpatz. Then, approaching Schwedenkreuz at 160mph I couldn't help but
think that I wouldn't be trying that speed in a car, and I gave up the lap
after the subsequent wreck. However, I like the look and feel of the game.
One of the views is "over the handlebars" which is a nice change, since we
didn't get a cockpit view for GT4.
It, like GT4, is HD compatible. I don't know how it would work with a DFP,
but the feel of the game may be just different enough that the adjustment
to a DS2 is negligible (and it's not a problem for me since I'm a DS2 guy
anyway). At first glance it seems a value at $40, but I can't help but
think it will get cheaper sooner than GT4 did. I don't know if a 'Ring

message detail Hmm, I'll probably have to pick up Tourist Trophy sometime.
Running bikes on the 'Ring sounds like a lot of fun.
So, I was wondering how many here have tried out Enthusia's version of the
'Ring? I just picked it up the other day, and I have to say I'm fairly
impressed. Although it lacks the grafitti ( an irrelevant point) and lacks
a lot of the bumps (though it's by no means smooth and it takes a lot less
to upset a car in Enthusia) there are some points where I think it's
actually better than GT's version. Most noteable is Adenauer-Forst, where
they actually modelled the undulation of the curve more accurately, and
the off-track terrain seems to be a bit more accurate. I'd love to see a
triple side-by-side comparision of equal-time laps.
One thing I REALLY like is that I can finally race on the 'Ring in

message detail I picked up Tourist Trophy today, too. Made it through the
license tests (mostly bronze) in one sitting.
But if you expect anything besides the tracks to be the same as GT4, think
again. To me, there is no "seat-of-the-pants" feel, like in GT4. No
understeer or oversteer, or a feel of the bike moving around under you.
You just crank it hard one way or the other for turns, and control how
tightly you turn with your speed. Too fast...you crash into the wall or go
off the track. Too slow...well...you just realize you should be going
faster. Kinda like driving a Saleen S7, or any other car that pushes
really bad: Just crank the wheel full lock, and slow down until it turns.
Also, there's no bouncing off of walls, or extended trips through the
grass or dirt. You crash...and then you and your bike reappear on the
track and you go again.
Having said all that, I have to say it IS kinda FUN, though. Being a DFP
(which doesn't work with it) guy, it took some time to get the hang of
using a controller. But that's not the end of the world. The game DOES
force you to focus much more on your line and your corner-speed. There's
no throwing it into a slide just before a turn to scrub off speed and save
it. If you're going too fast, you're gonna crash. If you miss your line,
you're gonna crash. No back and forth panic-corrections, either. When you
try that, the bike flops over on its side and you go for a little tumble.
Overall, its a fun game, but no GT4.

---
Ciscrack--Sorry. You're right. I already passed S-2. S-1 is
the Motegi one. I hate that track. I don't think I've gotten within two
seconds of Gold, yet.
S-3 SSR-5 with the S7. Not real close on that one yet either.
S-7 Trial Mountain with the SLR. Haven't tried real hard on that one yet
S-8 Tokyo 246. I keep crashing on the kink in the back stretch. I'm pretty
sure you have to take that full-out to get Gold.
S-9 El Capitan. Almost there on that one. I've been on pace several times,
and then did something stupid towards the end. That will probably be my
next one.
Grand Canyon and Chamonix, I haven't tried yet.
Yes, of course Suzuka. That's a toughy.
And the Bently on La Sarthe I'm pretty close on, too. It'll just take that
one mistake-free run.
So, I guess that's 9 I have left.
Been spending all my time on Tourist Trophy lately, though. Made my first
run on the Ring tonight, on a Suzuki GSX 1000 Street bike. Yikes!! Best
run was a 8'15. And that was with a couple crashes. I have yet to make it
through Schwedenkreuz without crashing. The slower parts, like through the
technical section, are a lot of fun. But when you get going really fast,
the controls become hyper-sensitive (double-yikes!! I just smashed a big
black spider scrambling across my floor). Anyway, it's hard to make gentle
enough corrections when you're going over 150 MPH on a bike...especially
over all the bumps on the Ring.
I was waiting to be skillful enough to run the Ring. But I see now I
should have done it earlier. It has all the ingredients for learning all
the skills. As always, it's the track that teaches you the most!
Peace, out!

seconds of Gold, yet.
Peace, out!
