I don't even remember any trash talk about my car, but no worries in any case. You don't have to love someone's car to get along with them.
As for the brake upgrade stuff, I cannot believe I didn't think of that. I know how brakes work and everything, I just didn't put 2 and 2 together. I guess I'm just so used to brake upgrades being there in previous GTs. Although...wouldn't steps up to sport and racing slicks eventually necessitate the need for brakes to match?
But yeah, I totally get how some things seem to have been done only to keep whiny little brats from raging and not buying another PD product for life. Sad, really...

Is it just me or does it seem like everyone with high-level b-spec drivers are just cheesing the hell out of the game by bringing in wildly overpowered cars to those races? I mean, I've been trying (and occasionally failing) to win b-spec events with cars that are at least close to the competition...

only reason ANYONE is b speccing right now (at leas on the GF boards) is that at level 35, you get a free X1 without having to work for it (literally).
luckily, the X1 you get is easily identified. an S. Vettel X1 is the level 35 B spec car. so anyone with that, is lawltacular.
I take overpowered cars to b spec because i HATE b spec, and refuse to put any effort or time into it. so, give driver OP car, walk away. I'm still only level 2 because I hate it that much. I really despise the b spec portion of the game. in GT4 was optional, and added to the playability. now it's just, required. I never liked it for more than DTM grinding (and I still raced th ering anyway) and endurance race breaks.
Delta: a BMW M5 on DOT slicks (those bastards with like, th esingle groove down the outside of the tire) will still lock them up if ya do it wrong. and you've got it wrong: I DO love your car. it's an old pony car. done right (too much "blingage" on resto'd cars these days, IMHO). I just don't generally like the 289 as a "muscle car" engine.

I want to run b-spec because some of the prizes are pretty good, but I'm trying to take it seriously. I feel like it is more fleshed-out than it was in GT4, but it still doesn't quite stand on its own very well. A well-done race manager mode would be interesting and kinda fun IMO, it's too bad they weren't able to do more with b-spec than they did.

I still look to GM mode in the NHL games for half decent system.
I think B spec should be mainly an enduro thing. add a driver to do 3 hours of the race. his level should be on par with yours (if you fail, he should. if you rock, he should, etc, to make it less random and keep you form coming back to a 15 lap deficit)
ugh, just hit 28 last night. indy 500 grind FTL. ah well, won't be too bad. i have to do it like 3 times. 3 repeats and 2 dream car championships should put me at 30.

level 28 to level 29: 391,000 a spec points level 29 to level 30: 500,000 a spec points.
this does not look good. that is a 23% increase. this does not bode well for levels 35 through 40. on the bright side, I have 2 weeks off as of tuesday. the X1 challenge will be golded. no excuses, only results.

I don't even think of the 289 as a "muscle" engine. I realize it has serious potential, and I strive to meet that, personally.

The Mustang was never a muscle car to begin with, which isn't to say that it never had any muscle...

i realize that. Delta: potential rocks. it's the only bad thing about most motorcycles. they are already developed almost as far as they'll go. cars win in that dept.
anyone know who this "race enthusiast" is on gamefaqs? I get the feeling it's an alt of a regular.

So, there's a sticky on the GT5 board right now that endorses duping topics as legal because there's no online economy to ruin and no online racing advantage to gain from duping and trading. Sigh. I have a feeling that backing up saves will be removed in the next patch because of this bullshit. People are just out to have the best cars, it's like they don't care about the rest of the game, just give them their instant gratification already. This is why we can't have nice things.

isn't discussion of gliotches and exploits a ToS violation? I'm quite sure.
like I created the topic about (which was prompty deleted, for, of all things, discussion of a gliotch or exploit), the GT5 GF board has gone completely to shit. the ENTIRE board is "I want x car" and "I'll dupe x car".
not one good topic about the fucking RACING.

Duping is going to get nerfed in the next patch, believe me. I hope they do something like Valve did with their whole TF2 idling fiasco. They gave out a free hat to all of the community members who didn't use the idle client for not cheating the system. It would be cool if PD gave us all a free car or something.
Speaking of free cars, does anyone know anything about the apparent free Christmas giveaway? I've heard some different things about how it's Japan or EU only or that it isn't, and that they're supposed to be distributing it starting today. I checked about an hour ago and saw no evidence of it in the game or the PSN store.

I checked most of the night while I was training for the X1 challenge (which is a HOOKER, even with a wheel, for me. although you guys, who are regularly about 5 seconds faster than me, shouldn't have an issue with some practice) and there was nothing. I see it being jpn/eu only. as for the duping fiasco: they are gonan remove the ability to back up saves, I know it. and then everyone will bitch and whine and moan about it. PD is gonna be like the parent that said "OK timmy, you can drive my m3". timmy starts drifting, gets into an accident, incurs a ton of charges on the parents insurance, and the parents make him drive a civic until he's 23. they have no choice. this is breaking their game. but how does PD for sure know who has duped and not duped? I doubt there'd be a way for them to tell. as a side note: Seoulspirit, an active poster on GF who seems like a good guy, put a greta newbie topic together. it was stickied quite quickly. then, the same mod that stickied his own "duping cars is allowed" topic, unstickied this. His, and another mod's logic? "this FAQ is gonna become obsolete when the game is patched". the FAQ specifically states that it will be updated, each patch. maybe is GF would allow motherfucking editing, we wouldn't have this issue. maybe if the mods didn't have an IQ of a fucking cockroach (and that's an insult to those smart insect bastards) they'd realize that this topic is still full fo good information. it's still relevant, even with all the patching we're seeing. the likelyhood of the game becoming irrelevant to the sticky through patching is absurd. GODDAMMIT. i for one, suggest we continue to request stickies on this until they damned well acquiesce. the failure is nuts. "Cheating topics allowed" "no faqs allowed. they're irrelevant". topic: www.gamefaqs.com/boards/941103-gran-turismo-5/57589051edit: huh, apparently, repeatedly referring to the mods as "forrest gump and his group of moderator friends" is grounds for a warning. who'da thunk it? there goes 10 karma. lawl i'll never hit 34. ah well, ragnarok, kfleong, and a few others are still on the bandwagon.

Gamefaqs will never stop sucking. That's why I created these boards, use them instead of hoping for GF to get better. It bothers me sometimes when GTF complains about gamefaqs, I've learned to stop caring a long time ago. My last stand on that site was on the night where a bunch of us made DRZ impersonations and went to town, and I personally hope to keep it that way.
