*sigh* Fine. Before a small group of people decided that we shouldn't be doing all as we pleased, and to organize society, very few of us thought any of it was "bad". It was just life.
Nitpicking for the win!

Yeah, you're right. Before they made laws it was cool with you if they came and raped and murdered your wife. Or stole all of your goods. Or burninated your cottage (Trogdor FTW!). Especially when it was done by a noble, which it usually was in the medieval times.
BTW, that last paragraph is in MASSIVE sarcasm quotes.
You actually have to go back quite far before you find a time when humans didn't have some sort of law or code of conduct enforced in their civilizations. The fact is that people are much easier to rule if they are held to a standard of behavior. As a ruler, you couldn't very well get pissed at someone for assassinating you if there was nothing saying you couldn't.
I guess if you go back far enough before humans became civilized (and by civilized, I mean started living in settlements with other humans with some sort of ruler and organized society; you can debate how "civilized" this actually is) then yeah, it was part of life. But don't you think a life where someone could kill you because your loin cloth looked cooler than his would be sort of chaotic? There would be no safety anywhere. As a general rule now, you can trust that your fellow humans won't kill you for a petty reason (most humans, anyway). You trust the people that you meet in the streets enough that you don't have to attack them first just so they won't attack you. This is largely due to law. When people understand that actions have serious consequences that will be carried against them, they are much less likely to execute those actions. That is, they police themselves so they don't have to be taken to task by the police (or whatever the ruling authority is).

I do believe Cis and I were tlaking about that time "far enough back"
As a general rule now, you can trust that your fellow humans won't kill you for a petty reason (most humans, anyway). That's why tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of people are mugged in broad daylight yearly. much less the kidnappings, rapes, murders, car jackings, etc. Are you still sure the law does alot?
Locks are to keep the good people out, as my grandfather said quite often.
But, I am off topic, and wandering from my point.

Yeah, I'm talking about the time before time, before any humans decided they NEEDED to control other humans, when the strongest survived each and every battle with man or beast.
Just imagine how that would be, NO DRZ's and the like in this world.
G.O.D.- Seems like it should read "locks are meant to keep the good people in".

We actually had a discussion about this exact topic in my Humanities class today. Pretty much the same points made, pretty much the same conclusion.
I love that class. If it wasn't for that class (and Calc) I wouldn't even bother showing up to school any more.

Agreed. My english class, and my math class keep me in school, subject wise. English, because i have a teacher who is 100%, no holds barred, balls to the wall "If you say something, you will get it back" gutterminded-and-not-afraid-to-show-it teacher, who insists she ALWAYS wins. Between her and I, we've probably said more insults back and forth than most siblings.
As for math, i just like math. it's that simple.

Ah, to be young again...
You know, at that age, the more you pick on someone of the opposite sex, the more you like them (in THAT way, LOL).
