Renault Roadshow @ Lisbon *56K warning*

Hello everyone!

I've been quite absent most of the time from making some posts in here, but I will compensate with something you all might like to see.

This last Sunday, there was a Renault Roadshow right close to me, in Lisbon. I couldn't afford to lose a one of a kind opportunity to lay my eyes on such beautiful pieces of machinery.


They used this to showcase the new Renaults that will be released in November, but also had showoffs, and some racing machines that compete iin the most various competitions.


Of course, I took my camera (phone camera, so quality will be a bit sucky...) to take some pics

And here I am in order to show them to you:

This is a Renault Mégane Cup. It has a 3.5 litre V6 engine, that pumps out 330Hp, enough to take this noisy baby from 0-60 mph in 5 seconds.

There's some more cars. The cars with the jungle-y paint scheme were used for showoffs. They are modified last gen Renault Clios. They may only have a 1.5 litre engine, but they only weigh 570Kgs... so it will still do 215 Kph (134 mph), which is pretty good...

Those are the new Megane coupés. They will be launched this November to the Portuguese market. That little group of 5 Meganes were doing all sorts of crazy stuff, including a synchronised J-turn at some point, directly in front of me.

But do you think that I went there just to see a bunch of fancy looking cars perform some tricks?? Of course not.

I wass there, because of the main attraction. The only thing in this world that can combine top-notch human technology, with God's scream, a lot of intimidative power, awesomeness, kickassness, and a look that can make a kid run for his life.

In case you're wondering, yes, that's me on that last pic. One of the guys from the Renault F1 team was kind enough to let some people enter and take pics to whoever wanted. At some point, though, I thought that I wouldn't be able to take a pic, because he said that no one else would get in. But it wasn't because of that... It was because they decided to start the engine of the second F1 car(the one without the hood cover) at about 6 metres away from me. The car is OBSCENELY LOUD!!!! I almost literally crapped myself when they started the engine, and my ear drums were starting to give in when they revved that SOB to full throttle. After they started it, and revved it, they turned it off, and let me take a pic.

They also had one of those pneumatic drills to take out the wheels:

I've captured some videos as well, but they do absolutely NO JUSTICE to just how unearthly loud the F1 and the Mégane Cup cars are (and the shitty quality of a camera phone doesn't help either...)


Needless to say, this was one of the best afternoons I've spent in my entire life.

Very cool, Nemesis. I envy you for being able to see such an awesome machine. In the third pic of the Formula, there is a strange black apparatus sticking out of the back of the transaxle with a hose attached to it. What exactly was that?

BTW, who was that fruitcup posing next to the F1 in the last photo?

and you got to TOUCH it! I wish they'd come here, but there are no canadian based F1 teams, and now no Canadian GP either.

That hose thing is the F1 starter. That's what they use to start the F1 engine.

As for the fruitcup comment... that's what happens when you run out of hair gel... And the fact that I'm not photogenic at all

They didn't make it sing any music. Just the fact that they revved it, and they took it up and down the avenue quite a lot of times @ WOT is great.

Oh and that was last year's car. The guy that drove it is the current third pilot (test pilot) of the Renault F1 team: Lucas di Grassi

ugh. You guys need to post pics of yourselves next to F1 cars before you go calling other people fruit cups. I think maybe Nem gets overshadowed by the unharnessed and unbridled manliness and power that is an F1 car. I'm sure he looks completely normal and even attractive without something so dominating in the picture.
