Hey all.
Thought I'd post a thread for posting, comparing, and discussing Nurburgring Nordschliefe times. That's basically all I've been doing in GT5 for the last few weeks is Ring lapping cars from the UCD. I've also decided to keep a spreadsheet of times, since the game only keeps track of your top 10 (which is lame, IMO). Unfortunately, I had already run a pretty good number of laps, so I don't have record of some of the original cars that I've driven.
I'll post a couple of the times I'm particularly happy with. I drive cars at stock with the tires they came with, usually with as few aids as I can get away with (which translates to no ASM, SRF, and as little TCS as I feel comfortable with driving with the DS3).
Ferrari F10: 5:22.109 -- Decent, probably another 5 seconds out there that I can get. So easy to drive quickly compared to the FGT, even if it is slower, it's much more fun.
Chaparral 2D: 6:36.875 -- The game made a big deal out of the Ford, Ferrari, and Jaguar 60's era Le Mans cars, but this is better than any of them, as far as I can tell. It's such a smooth handler and the incredibly tall gearing makes it very easy to put power down.
Dodge Viper GTS-R Team Oreca: 6:27.715 -- Really a solid handler
Oullim Motors Spirra: 7:57.504. -- Wiggly ass and TBH this time probably isn't that fast, but I am pretty pleased with being able to keep this guy on the track for a full lap. Seems a little bit less spirited here than in GT4, though.
Bugatti Veyron 16.4: 7:10.878 -- Once you wrap your head around how fast you're going, you can turn some damn quick laps. It's just a matter of braking soon enough. The GT5 board loves to hate on the handling, but it's a product of the weight and the fact that it feels poor because the braking power hasn't increased with engine power (which is somewhat unusual, most cars tend to have a balance, the lack of balance is perceived as a shortcoming to most people), the end result of which is that the car is traveling faster entering the corner than you expect. I don't recall what tires I had on when I ran this lap, though, it was in the top 10 on my board before I started the spreadsheet.
Feel free to post your times. Sort of Nurburgring Diaries-ish, if you want.
