I also got a new and first job... mine's not nearly as exciting. Mcdonalds. In fact, i quite hate it. but money is money, so I'm sticking with it for now... still searching for other opprotunities. Having a job also means my parents let me officially own my dads car ;D my dad got a new car, and now I'm inheriting the acura. rl.acurazine.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13058694&postcount=4My dad got a bmw 335d. It's got a twin turbo diesel with 425 ft-lbs of torque this thing is wicked fast. I'll make a thread about it soon enough.

nightmare: haven't started work just yet. weather has delayed building around here. should get a call this week. quite good.
spartan: mmmm, torque. went offroading with the chev recently, and was reminded as to why diesels are awesome. pulled a wrangler out of bumper high mud without much thought to it. i mostly went as a pull truck, since i'm not equipped for anything too serious on the mudding side, i just like the trail running aspect. so i followed and took the sidetrails where i could, and yanked a few people out who chose the deeper stuff. but i digress. gettin on point: yes, torque is fun.
on the topic of new vehicles: this job should let me upgrade the truck and bike soon, along with lettin me get enough cash for hopefully a house this fall. there are some right fine acreages out here for about 150-200grand, some over 20 acres, with a garage. if you can stand being in an rtm, as i can easily, being without family or kids, it's a huge opportunity.
within the month i should have more things moved out here, although it is a 9 hour drive at a normal pace. the ps3, my own laptop, and the tv shall be brought, along with the wheel. the crew i'll be runnign with here only works 8-5:30, compared to my 7am-8pm days in the flatlands, so that's a marked improvement. wages are also way higher (as in, i was making 15 in PA, and noted to the boss that i was lookin at 25, and he said "well that's not too bad" to me) so i should be in a right good position.
oh, and to the gun lovers: there's a range not a mile from where i'm currently living. and i'm looking at small cal target and game guns right now. currently infatuated with rugers. shot one, loved it.
mayeb in the fall i can post about house hunting!

Yeah let us know. Moving about is always fun. I haven't moved houses since i was 6.
On a similar note, I'm starting to save my money for apartment rent. I kind of realized that I enjoy being independent, something that can't happen under my parents' roof. I recently bought the Proficient Motorcycling book by David Hough, when my mom saw it she got a little annoyed and basically said that as long as i am under their roof I will not own a motorcycle. As a teenager who does not
This kinda hurt a little bit, and this amid other reasons means that once I leave for college, i don't plan on moving back in (with economy like it is now, i'll have to be really careful with the money...). My relationship with my parents is and probably always will be good, so the separation will be amicable. Hopefully ill find some bros in college and share rent with them, find a good job, and begin a new chapter in my life.
Finally I'll be able to get around to this motorcycle business that has basically been the apple at the end of the stick for so many years...

The market for housing right now is pretty close to ideal for a homebuyer... buy maybe not a first-time homebuyer. On the one hand, interest rates are crazy low, demand for houses is down, and there tend to be a ton of houses on the market all competing for buyers, so prices are low. On the other hand, getting a loan is much more difficult than it was pre-2008 (as it damn well should be), especially if you have no credit history. I'm graduating from school next spring and I will have a job coming out (all but guaranteed at this point), so I'm hoping I can live frugally and get some money put away for a house in a year or two and a Viper for my 25th birthday. I've got a pretty good hunk of money in the bank now, but my truck is also in the shop getting its transmission rebuilt :\

well the weather can screw off. rain has postponed work. i may have a different opportunity with swamping for the oilfield. it's basically a truck hand. good pay, fun workm hard work. crazy hours. might be able to go with my uncle if i decide to. went out once or twice wiht him already, it was a blast. and the amount of toys to buy for cheap is nuts.
spartan:micky dees can be fun. I worked at wendys for 2 years, and other than the last few months, we had a blast. kitchens can be great fun when you have the right staff.

Yeah, in a fast food joint, the kitchen is the place to be. Up front, you have to deal with dumbass customers who complain when they don't get what they want when they don't know what they want in the first place.
Oil field jobs are pretty good, or so I hear. Back when I was living in eastern Montana, the place was starting to crawl with guys who were there just for oil jobs since high gas prices meant getting the oil out of the Bakken was finally financially feasible.

welp that sucks, cause the front is where I am. And yea quite a few customers are dumb, and they do stuff like change their minds and it makes me look bad. Also one of my managers is such a hard ass, but I'm sure everyone gets that... still sucks though. The rest are totally awesome.
Just out of curiosity, what made those last few months not fun?

You should really ask if you can get trained in the kitchen. I think most places like having employees that can work anywhere, it makes scheduling a lot easier. IDK how your place works though, they might separate front people and kitchen people completely.

Maybe I will. But in this place, it doesn't seem like any position can be too much fun. I'm hoping that with high school seniors leaving for college in a few weeks, the couple of contacts i had at various places will contact me. I'd be quite alright leaving so soon, the fast food industry isn't really for me.
On a separate note, I recently went on some college visits, and I decided that I really like Virginia Tech. spent 2 days there and it's a great area. Nice people, great campus, and it totally has that stereotypical college town feeling.

Yeah... my high school years have been a bit lonely female-wise so hopefully i can turn things around lol. I'm actually looking to join the formula SAE team, in which you build and race a small scale formula car powered by a 600cc engine. Most of the time they pull them from Honda CBRs or Yamahas. 0-60 is around 3 seconds.

so i figure i'll wait for the ritchie bros auction in the fall for a new truck (i checked the advance listings, some good stock) and nab a sweet little z750 from edmonton this tuesday for 4 grand.
spartan: I know of FSAE. the University of Saskatchewan went to california last year with theirs for some big competition. they use a 600cc engine, usually from the honda for it's perceived favourable durability, commoness and better powerband. some teams use the yami's because they prefer the slightly more powerful, and also slightly peakier powerband.
you must use a single throttle with i believe a 32mm diameter. no spacing or anything. power output is kept as close as possible, to make it a contest of driving and specifically engineering of the chassis and suspension.
very cool. if i had th ehead for uni, i'd be doing it, believe me.

thumbs up on the z750. beautiful bike. And yeah it seems like an awesome program. I'll learn a bit more about my life passion while doing something that looks good for future employers. I'm probably going in for mechanical engineering, so research and design is a big aspect.
oh yeah, and there's a little something else I've been cooking up. I'm in the planning mode of finding a project car. I'm currently looking at a 240sx. Drift tax sucks, but I've found various good deals on this car, including a $700 car minus engine. Of course there are many problems that may arise with that, but i'm definitely doing the research. But that would be fun, figuring out how the hell to drop in a new engine. I would want to do as much DIY as possible. Other cars im considering: NA miata, e30/6 bmw. Basically all i want is cheap rwd manual lol. Any ideas?
