Bring back A-spec points and scale experience earned from a race by how difficult your race was.
The idea is this: your experience from a given race should be proportional to the amount of skill it took to win that race. This is already sort of implemented in that later, (and supposedly) harder races give more experience than than earlier, (and supposedly) easier races do. However, you gain exactly as much experience for winning the Sunday Cup in a Midget as you do for winning it in an FGT, which doesn't make any sense to me. Furthermore, I think a hard-fought second place finish in a vastly inferior car should be worth more points than a 40 second victory in a vastly superior car. Scaling experience based on a-spec points could potentially do this.
I'm not saying we need a straight port of the points system from GT4. I'm thinking something along the lines of a scale of one to ten for rating races, with 1 being easy and 10 being hard, 5 being an even race (everyone with the same car, 60 pts in the old GT4 system). Winning the race with a 5-level difficulty would give the same experience that you would earn now (though I'd consider 4 instead, the guy with the best car does tend to win more often), whereas a ten would give you some multiple of that difficulty. How much it should give you is debatable, but I think something along the lines of 3x experience for a 10 would be reasonably balanced, while maybe half experience for a 1 would be tolerable by the unwashed masses. Caveat: The X2010 is ALWAYS a 1.
What I think this does for the game is encourage improvement. If you're having trouble getting to the next level, take the turbo off of your car and try that last race again. Players who are trying to bring competitive cars into races (like me ) would be rewarded for not taking advantage of loose restrictions. As it is now, the game provides no rewards to the player for challenging him/herself, which I think should change.
The game could keep track of your highest a-spec score in a given race, which would give you sort of an unofficial challenge mode, like the 200 pt. A-spec challenge from GT4.
I'm also thinking scaling experience based on the difficulty as well as the length of the race would be interesting. I mean, clearly, winning a 10 pt. 9 hour race is pretty impressive and should be rewarded. I'm on the fence on that one, though.
