In case anyone's interested and don't have the resources to build your own car, teams are always looking for drivers for their respective races. My brother and I won't be driving the Volvo in the upcoming race at Thunderhill. He knows guys from several different teams and had no problem being invited(for $$$) to join a team with a MGB. He told me about their forum boards where teams are looking for drivers or drivers are looking for teams. I responded to one post from a guy who has a BMW E30. He was asking $1300 to drive for him which is way too much for this type of race IMO. I've gotten emails from 3 other guys now asking if I wanted to join them. I'm hooking up with these 2 guys from LA with a Saab 9-3. When I asked how much he wanted, he named my exact limit on what I was willing to put in, $800. It is definitely worth the experience though. There's also the one time cost of buying your personal equipment, race suit, helmet, neck restraint, gloves and shoes which would come to another $500-600.
