One wise Ignignoc once told me...
"The way it SHOULD be in "stock" car racing is that you have stock cars totally stripped down to the bare minimum, fitted with racing tires, and let loose on a circle track to see who can last the longest."
In light of this awesome idea, and NASCAR's recent.. gayness..
We should consider this.
Any suggestions or comments are welcome, this event is open for discussion.

Idea: Take an American car, do all 3 weight reductions, port polish, racing chip, performance exhaust, FC transmission, racing clutch, lightweight flywheel, carbon driveshaft (if applicable) and racing tires. Run the Laguna Seca 200 Mi. race, best time wins.
Maybe Laguna's race is too long, but it's the closest thing to a "stock car race" as there is in the game. Infineon Stock Car Course is also an option, we could go for the lowest time in one of the longer races on that track. I also think the pool of cars would be limited to things that could possibly be elligible for Nascar, which means no Saleen, Viper, GT, 'Vette or Callaway. Perhaps the top would be Camaro and Mustang, but those cars would probably get handicapped.
My rationale for the upgrades is the "stripping it down" aspect. I think the exhaust and racing chip would probably be used for upgrading a car that would otherwise be overly handicapped (and maybe engine balancing, since that doesn't actually add components) The rest of the upgrades are just for slimming the car down, and the FC is there for some customizeability and tuneability. (FC suspension is something that can be discussed if someone really wants it).

According to the C4mry and F0oShuN, that could be anything. But we could say like under 450 HP or something

I think 450 is too much for a "stock" car competition. I kind of thought the spirit of this was to take a car, lighten it up, then see what it could do. The Corvette's under that line anyway, and I think this is more about cars that are day-to-day drivers.
Now that I think about it, putting a horsepower line on it isn't going to work very well, because I think classic muscle cars should be included in this as well (excluding the Buick Special and Shelby) and some of those have more horsepower, but could actually turn slower lap times than other cars.
To me, it comes down to picking a "practical" American car (which there aren't a lot of in this game), slimming it down and racing it. I'll try to think up a car list for it.

In 1969 as a Dogde driver, you had the option of running Charger (Fastback or Daytona) or Coronet; since the Super Bee is based on the Coronet, it's in. The 1970 Superbird was designed specifically for NASCAR, it's in. Cameros had some success in both Trans AM and CAN AM, and were the IROC cars of the '80s, they're in.
The GNX was based on the Buick Regal, which was Buick's entry in NASCAR throughout the '80s, but I think putting that Turbo 6 up against the big V8s might present some strange results.

Infact the Buick Turbos were among the rivals for Monte Carlo in the old Stock Car Racing. The GNX on the other hand was once the fastest production car in the WORLD (Even thought it was only for like 3 months). So don't underestimate. ;D

That's part of my point; though the GNX produces some great torque and can run real fast, it's still a turbo car, so getting in the wrong gear can cause some lag.

I'm going to put together a preliminary car list here, feel free to disagree/discuss any of the cars present.
Buick GNX I realized I forgot this car about a day after the fact (Yesssssssssssss, ty, ty..)- Fox Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Concept 1988 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 2000 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 302 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Coupe 1997 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 1970*
Chrysler 300C 2005
Dodge Charger 440 R/T 1970 Dodge Charger Super Bee 426 Hemi 1971 Dodge SRT4 2003
EAGLE Talon Esi 1997
Ford FOCUS RS 2002 Ford FOCUS ST170 2003 Ford Mustang GT 2005 Ford MUSTANG SVT Cobra R 2000 Ford Taurus SHO 1998
Jay Leno Tank Car 2003 (just for kicks, it IS American, after all)
Mitsubishi 3000GT MR (J) 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT MR (J) 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL (J) 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL (J) 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL (J) 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 (J) 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo (J) 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo (J) 1996 (A note on the Mitsu's: I included them because this car is essentially the same as the Dodge Avenger of the 90's. This has nothing to do with the current Avenger, which is a Nascar participant and a sedan, but I put it in anyway.)
Plymouth Cuda 440 Six Pack 1971 Plymouth Super Bird 1970
Pontiac GTO 5.7 Coupe 2004 Pontiac Tempest Le Mans GTO 1964
Shelby Mustang G.T. 350R 1965*
A couple of cars are starred, I think these could be overpowered/inappropriate for the competition/controversial. Most of these cars won't be used anyway, so most of this doesn't matter.
I didn't include cars manufactured by an American company for overseas consumption (eg Ford RS200), Japanese cars manufactured in America (eg Toyota) or Japanese luxury brands based in America (eg Infiniti, Acura, Lexus).
You'll also note that I included some of the low-end cars in the group. I put those in mostly for variety and numbers.
Additions and subtractions and general discussion are all welcome.

Just before reading this post. I bought a 300C just for kicks, and boosted the power to 700hp with no other mods. Turned the aids off, and spent the next two hours having fun.
