Discussion Thread - Moving the 'Ring Diaries here.

I thought given the amount of interest shown in this idea that a discussion thread would be useful.

For my part I think the idea has merit, I have no particular feeling of loyalty to Gamefaq as the preferred site. Especially as they stupidly deleted a whole volume for very spurious reasons.

I do not want that happening again.

If the Diary is to find a new home here, we must make efforts to get the permission of the founder ( sackedagain ) or at least the opinions of as many vets as possible.
As Soulidarity is our current leader I recommend contacting him to get his opinion ( looks around hopefully and waits for Souli to announce himself here ) and to help with contacting vets. I know Souli has a few email contacts and IIRC the Frappr map site has email links also ? I also have a few email links, and I know some vets are lurking and would be easy to contact.

Advantages of moving here are legion but here are a few of my thoughts.
Hopefully attract new devotees as this site grows, I see no prospect of that happening much at Gamefaqs.

More Bells and whistles here i.e. posts can be edited, photos added, more discerning and Adult members.
Less dramas with moderations, as long as people follow the basic Ringdiary rules i.e. polite behavior to everyone at all times, no flaming or vilification EVER.
The Diary has managed this for over 15 volumes so I see no reason to change. Even the Trolls knew to leave the diary alone.

Even if and when GT5 for the PS3 is available the Diary will live on because $1000 for a Game is probably a bit steep for most people ( me included !! ). Of course there is no reason why a "Son Of Ringdiary" GT5 version could not be hosted here when the time comes ( that would make Flasawoo happy !! ).

Apologies for the "Wall of Text" but something needs to be done.
Post thoughts here and we will see what develops.

The thing about moving it here is that there's less traffic from random people who would see it and say "Hey, that looks cool. I think I'll contribute" But there is a growing membership here, so that may not be that big of an issue.

Another problem is that some vets that don't hang around a lot anymore might miss the move and think the Ring diary disappeared. That kinda sucks for them. I doubt that we'll end up contacting all of the vets who have participated over its long history, so some would be in the dark about the move.

I would like to move it here, but I'm just playing a little devil's advocate.

I think moving it here is an excellent idea because we have much better features here, like post editing and picture embedding. AFAIK, there is no limit to how many posts can be contained in one thread, so we wouldn't ever have to worry about creating a new topic because the old one reached the end. Here, we don't have to worry about over-sensitive moderators and other things, so we won't lose valuable content because some pygmy in New Guinea might have been a tad bit offended by it.

To me, it all depends on whether a lot of the vets of the thread mind, especially Soli and others that have been there through most of the volumes.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I'd like to have as little reason as possible to visit that garbage site. As for some of the vets that rarely show up, we know they will eventually, so maybe just keep the Ring diary bumped to keep it on the board. Maybe we all can make sure there's at least one post on every page mentioning the move, probably placed stealthily in a sig. Just make sure not to bump it to often just to keep it up there as long as possible.

As for permission from sackedagain, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if the topic he started almost 2 1/2 yrs. ago continued to live on in another realm of the worldwideweb. I certainly wouldn't mind if I created it.

Thanks for the input so far, and I am glad nightmare is being "Devils Advocate" as we need to have one.

Keeping it slowly bumped with clues to where it is, is a good idea.
Three months would probably do it and then perhaps the odd "Dorothy Dixer" from a couple of us in another thread would be useful as well.

Hey, I've been saying it all along: "If we get the Diaries over here, we will grow!" (See there? I DID say it!!1) That's also another reason why I chose to start up the TMLMS™ again, and invite folks here to participate. We NEED good regulars, and we need to build a reputation. The 'Ring Diaries, competitive events, and a yearly (or at least "regular") TMLMS™ would do just those things.

I like the TMLMS, but it's probably better as a summer thing when people tend to have more time. A little off topic, I know, but there it is.
