Those M Coupes are pretty cool. I thought they were ugly the first time I looked at one, but I took a second look and was like wait a second, that's pretty damn smooth. Oh, and speaking of being "ambitious", and since I am a "Honda guy", I was doing some research and some math today. I have decided to screw the whole 'buy a cheap car and spend more fixing it up' thing. I was looking at some newer cars, and I think I can handle getting a new one with my current wages. I still have to actually get my license, and some insurance, but I want to get one of these. And I know I am gonna get some criticism and flack, but I don't care. I am not planning on making a gay ricer, and I have (I believe) a decent taste in cars and how to modify them without going overboard. I don't have plans for anything like latino's ride, (or the extra money or time, for that matter) so whatever I get will stay the same for a while. Anyway, to sum up, I want to get one of these, and I think I could do payments on it.

That car looks so weird, the front grill has no relation whatsoever with the headlights, it just seems out of place to me, but if you like it go for it.

I think the new Accords look pretty decent. They're definitely a step up from the last generation.

Mack: you plan to buy one new? as in...dealer new? at..what?17? I don't mean to be an asswipe, but i really don't think that's a good idea.
Mainly because the car payments are going to suck up your paycheck. Also, if you..say..get fired, or quit, or lose your job for whatever reason, I hope you can find another quick, or else they'll repo your car, if you start missing payments.
IMO, it's far better to find a suitable used car, and pay for it outright. particularly for a younger guy.

Oh yeah, I know... it's a long shot, and I don't really have a plan anytime soon to go to a dealer. That model will run for a few years, so I have a while. And yes, dealer new is a plan. But I will be 19 soon, I have a pretty good job (and they like me, so my chances of losing it are a little bit smaller than some people there) so am not going to be a total retard and go in over my head. I wouldn't even consider it if I knew there was a chance that I couldn't make it. And I think that nightmare and JV are both right abot the looks, it is wierd, but I like it.

I would never, repeat: NEVAR, buy brand new from a dealer. Even an Elise, one of the few new cars that appeal to me, I'd have to buy at a year or two old.
Other than that, I mostly plan on having a garage of restored classics, bought for a relatively small cash price, and restored via a bit of hard work and of course a few farmed out jobs are acceptable.
But yeah, that car will get you around reliably (hopefully) while you put together or buy a REAL automobile.

What is the reason that you won't buy brand new from a dealer?

^Because as soon as you drive it off the lot, it loses about 30% of its value immediately. Because you can get a relatively new used vehicle with all the reliability, durability, etc. of a new car for about half the price. Because "prestige" is about the only reason for driving/buying a brand new car. So on. So forth.

Basically, you should only buy a new car if you can afford to keep it for 40 years.

Hmm, good reasons! I knew about the value thing, but that doesn't bother me, because I wouldn't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

There's also the issue of really high insurance costs on vehicles that are financed, and even higher just because of your age. Don't get any tickets or in an accident, then you're really screwed.

What Mike said. Also, I really don't have any desire whatsoever to own a brand-spanking-new car. Plus, even if you plan on keeping it for a long time, you still just saved yourself a ton of money. And in case you didn't know, I like money.

Yeah, new cars aren't the best deal. I don't think anything out there depreciates as fast. You take a 15-30% hit just by driving off the lot.
That said, when you buy new and you can afford it, you get some peace of mind. The warranty is in full effect and you have the satisfaction of knowing that someone isn't just passing off something on you that you'll have to fix. For example, my dad bought a used Ram a couple years ago (from a dealer, even). The previous owner apparently got it really hot at one point and the engine was burning oil like there was no tomorrow. However, the dealer didn't catch it until after my dad showed it to them (a couple months later). Fortunately, they took fair trade-in value for it disregarding the burning oil problem since they felt they should've caught it. My dad ended up with the new body style.
However, not all dealers are that nice. We happened to live in the middle of nowhere, so the dealers around HAD to take care of all the customers they had or else lose them without replacement. There's also risk in buying from a private seller.
I guess my point is that there is some draw to buying new. It's not completely a waste to some people for peace of mind.

Well, that is one of the reasons that I *do* want to get it brand new. I want the peace of mind knowing that anything wrong with the car will be my fault. Oh, and I like money, too. Maybe people named Matt have that quality lol.
